Rogers & Bro

Rogers & Brothers was founded in 1847 when it developed a process for electroplating silver onto a base metal. The company name was changed shortly afterwards in 1855 to Rogers & Bros. Mfg. Co.. It was taken over by International Silver Company in 1898. To celebrate the 75th anniversary, the brand ‘1847 Rogers & Bros’ was created in 1922. The mark ‘Rogers & Bro’ itself was in use until 1976. Variations included ‘☆ Rogers & Bro. A1’ and ‘☆ Rogers & Brothers, 12’.

The teaspoon shown above is clearly identified via its markings as a product from this brand. Comparing it with several thousand products listed under company header of ‘International Silver’ at Replacements.com brings up one single very close match: the Desoto pattern from 1929, a simple, silverplated model. Apart from the recent ‘Carpe Diem’ addition, the engraved D might also have been custom.
